Cats are the most popular pet in the United States, with 88 million domestic cats, compared to 74 million pet dogs. According to Buzzfeed.com writer Chelsea Marshall in her article “82 Astounding Facts About Cats” a cat named Stubbs was once elected mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, for 15 years. According to another website about cats, Cat Lovers, there is a Hebrew legend that says that before God flooded the world, there were no cats, but only a couple of lions, which went on Noah’s ark. After a while the ark was infested with mice, eating all the food. Noah was really upset, so he prayed to God, who told Noah to hit the male lion on the face. He did, and the lion sneezed out a pair of cats. I assume that was the end of the mouse problem. Another thing I like about cats, is that they are very strong. Buzzfeed claims there have been cats that survived falling from 32 stories onto a concrete surface, (that is 320 feet!) Further, even a house cat can run faster than the fastest human, Olympian runner Usain Bolt who has a record of 44.7 km/hr accordingf to wikipedia! According to kittyclism.com, the fastest house cats can run up to 47 km/hr.
 Last, according to Psychology Today, a cat’s brain is only 10% different from our brain. Their cerebral cortex, which is the outside part of the brain that does most of our thinking, is 90% similar to a human's. Their brains are obviously smaller, but Psychology Today says that doesn’t matter. For example, the neanderthals had bigger brains than our ancestors, but we survived and they didn’t. In fact, while dogs are used for all kinds of jobs, like tracking criminals, a cat's cerebral cortex contains about 300 million neurons, when dogs have only about 160 million!
